Abstract

One of the most influential theoretical and methodological proposals to emerge in Latin American philosophical circles during the late 20th century and the early decades of the 21st is the so-called analogical hermeneutics, developed by the Mexican scholar Mauricio Beuchot (1950–). This is evidenced by the numerous works and reinterpretations it has inspired across the humanities and sectors of the social sciences, where it has been regarded as an original and compelling perspective due to its conciliatory nature between opposing extremes, such as interpretive dogmatism and epistemic relativism. However, despite its widespread acclaim, a segment of academic criticism has pointed to conceptual inconsistencies and argumentative weaknesses. Following this line of discussion, the present article aims to outline some of its most significant elements, highlighting both its strengths and merits, while also drawing attention to its possible imprecisions and ambiguities.
